The Bucheon Power Plant is a powerhouse of combined heat and power generation. It has been quietly serving Bucheon-si and the surrounding Gyeonggi-do region since 1993. The Bucheon Power Plant is fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG). It employs combined cycle technology, a highly efficient method of electricity generation. This allows the plant to produce both electricity and usable heat, maximizing energy efficiency. The Bucheon Power Plant has a substantial capacity of 450 megawatts. This output contributes significantly to South Korea’s energy grid. GS Power Co Ltd, a subsidiary of GS Holdings Corp, owns and operates the facility. The Bucheon Power Plant isn’t resting on its laurels. Expansion plans are in the works, with two new units announced. These units, also fueled by LNG and utilizing combined cycle technology, are projected to add nearly 1000 megawatts of capacity. One is slated for a 2025 launch, with the other following in 2028.
