What if I told you Brussel Noord – Bruxelles Nord isn’t just a station, but a time traveler? It has witnessed the birth of continental European railways. It stands as a gateway to Brussels, a bustling hub connecting Belgium to the world. Brussel Noord – Bruxelles Nord is one of the three major train stations in Brussels. The others are Brussels-Central and Brussels-South. Almost every train, both domestic and international (except Eurostar), stops here. A staggering 200,000 passengers pass through its gates each week. Imagine the stories these walls could tell. Brussel Noord – Bruxelles Nord also anchors one end of the North-South premetro axis (lines 4 and 10). It’s a key interchange for STIB/MIVB (Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company) and De Lijn (Flemish transport company) buses. Over 30 regional bus lines and international Eurolines coaches depart from Brussel Noord – Bruxelles Nord. Located in the Schaerbeek municipality, it’s nestled in the heart of the Northern Quarter business district. This area, sometimes called Little Manhattan, houses Belgacom Towers, Rogier Tower, and various corporate headquarters. It also hosts government and Flemish ministry offices. The current station, opened in 1952, is the third iteration of Brussel Noord – Bruxelles Nord. The first, Allée Verte/Groendreef, birthed continental Europe’s first public railway passenger train on May 5, 1835. A grand second station replaced it in 1846 on Place Charles Rogier/Karel Rogierplein. This station, designed by François Coppens, featured 27 tracks. This bustling hub we know as Brussel Noord – Bruxelles Nord is much more than a station. It is a living testament to the evolution of transport in Brussels. It’s a place where history and modernity collide, a crossroads of cultures and connections. So, next time you pass through Brussel Noord – Bruxelles Nord, take a moment to appreciate its journey through time. It’s a journey that continues with every arriving and departing train.
