From the heart of Frankfurt (Oder), a subtle rise beckons. This is Brückenberg, a natural peak reaching 81.7 meters. Brückenberg may appear unassuming. Yet, its elevated position offers a unique perspective on Frankfurt’s history. Brückenberg silently witnessed the ebb and flow of life along the Oder River. It observed the first medieval bridge, vital for Hanseatic merchants and pilgrims on the Way of St. James. Brückenberg saw the construction of a sturdier bridge in 1895, connecting Frankfurt to its Dammvorstadt district. It even carried a tram track. The current Stadtbrücke, built in 2002, stretches nearly 252 meters across the Oder. From Brückenberg, you can almost sense the historical weight of this crossing point between Germany and Poland. The border lies right in the middle of the shipping lane. Two-thirds of the bridge rests on Polish territory, inviting exploration of the neighboring town of Słubice.
