Amidst the bustling heart of Atlanta, lies a hidden gem whispering tales of battles and bullfrogs. Brookwood Hills, a historic neighborhood nestled north of Midtown, invites you to step back in time. Brookwood Hills was born in the early 1920s. Benjamin Franklin Burdett and his son, Arthur, envisioned a haven where the echoes of the Civil War’s fiercest battles mingled with the gentle rustling of oak leaves. They chose the very ground where soldiers clashed to create this tranquil oasis. Brookwood Hills boasts a unique design, its streets winding gracefully along the hilly terrain, a stark contrast to the rigid grid patterns of its time. These streets, lined with majestic oaks planted by Burdett himself, now stand as silent sentinels, their branches reaching towards the sky. The heart of Brookwood Hills beats within its Community Club. Here, neighbors gather amidst the park, pool, and tennis courts. The air fills with laughter during the annual Fourth of July parade and the spirited Easter egg hunt. But Brookwood Hills holds another, perhaps unexpected, claim to fame: its swim team, the Brookwood Hills Bullfrogs. These young athletes, with their amphibian mascot, make a splash in the Atlanta Swim Association summer league. They train tirelessly, culminating in a grand finale at Georgia Tech’s championships. The Bullfrogs have consistently proven their mettle. They achieved victory in both their division and the overall championship in 2013. More recently, they secured the Division 4 Championship in 2022 and 2023, and a commendable second place in 2021. Brookwood Hills, a neighborhood forged from battlefields, now thrives as a testament to community spirit and athletic prowess. As you wander through its leafy streets, imagine the clash of swords and the roar of cannons, now replaced by the cheers of families and the splash of young swimmers. Brookwood Hills is more than just a neighborhood; it’s a living story, waiting to be discovered.
