The Gold Line tracks run below. This makes foot access a 30-minute detour through Chinatown or Lincoln Heights. The Broadway Pedestrian Overcrossing changes that. Originally, California State Parks considered four locations for the bridge. The West Side near Cottage Home Street. Near Bishops Road by the Roundhouse. At Savoy Street in the center. And on the East Side by Solano Avenue. The final design showcases the engineering feat required. The bridge stands about 30 feet high. It needed this height to clear the Metro Gold Line’s overhead system. It also spans over 500 feet. The park side may include a looping ramp, staircase, and an elevator. The Broadway Pedestrian Overcrossing isn’t just a bridge. It represents a connection. It links the park to the communities east, crossing over a strip of land owned by the Riboli family. They have partnered with Lincoln Property Company for a mixed-use project. This project could bring over 900 apartments to the area.
