From 1927 to the 1940s these baths featured enormous swimming pools tennis and handball courts and a bustling baseball field. It was a lively scene a summer paradise for residents and visitors alike. Later a day camp took over only to be destroyed by a devastating three-alarm fire in 1994. The ashes of the past were replaced by something new something stronger.
Today’s Broad Channel American Park offers a variety of amenities. Two grass baseball fields and one asphalt field are ready for action. Benches and water fountains provide welcome respite. A small play area delights children. Four basketball standards and a nautical-themed seating area add to the park’s unique charm.
