Opened in May 1995 Broad Channel American Park wasn’t always this welcoming space. Before its transformation this area housed the Broad Channel Baths. From 1927 to the 1940s these baths featured enormous swimming pools tennis and handball courts and a bustling baseball field. It was a lively scene a summer paradise for residents and visitors alike. Later a day camp took over only to be destroyed by a devastating three-alarm fire in 1994. The ashes of the past were replaced by something new something stronger.

Today’s Broad Channel American Park offers a variety of amenities. Two grass baseball fields and one asphalt field are ready for action. Benches and water fountains provide welcome respite. A small play area delights children. Four basketball standards and a nautical-themed seating area add to the park’s unique charm. The park also boasts an ample parking area making it easily accessible. This transformation reflects the community’s spirit. A spirit that has weathered storms both literal and figurative.
