Didn’t it start as Antioch International Church? Brisbane Chinese Alliance Church has a fascinating history. It reflects the growth and changes within Brisbane’s Chinese Christian community.
Originally founded in 1990 in Sunnybank Hills, it was ministered to by several reverends. These included Rev. John Mui and Rev. Kim Goh. The church experienced rapid growth. This led to the formation of a Board of Deacons in 1995.
As attendance swelled, the venue became too small. The church made a pivotal decision. It split into two independent entities. These were Southside International Church and Brisbane Chinese Alliance Church. This split marked a significant turning point.
Brisbane Chinese Alliance Church then embarked on an ambitious project. It started building a new church in Rochedale in 2005. This was a major step for the congregation. The building project became a community effort. They organized fundraising events. Garage sales, lunch fundraisers and talent shows were held. The Opera “The Pilgrim’s Progress” was staged in 2007. These events fostered unity.
The Lord guided them throughout the project. The new building was completed in March 2009. This established Brisbane Chinese Alliance Church in Rochedale. Since then, the church has experienced significant growth.
The congregation evolved. It now includes a Cantonese congregation. This serves first-generation Cantonese immigrants. These include students, workers and retirees.
The younger members started an English congregation. This caters to second-generation immigrants. It welcomes non-Cantonese speakers too. In 2011, a Mandarin congregation was established. It has grown rapidly.
Brisbane Chinese Alliance Church now has diverse ministries. Sunday services are offered in Cantonese at 9 am. Mandarin and English services both take place at 11 am.
The church has an average attendance of 280 people. This includes children. The leadership team includes three pastors. Nine deacons support them. Four ministry committees organize church activities. Eleven fellowships provide community.
Today, Brisbane Chinese Alliance Church stands as a testament. It demonstrates the dedication of its members. It highlights their commitment to serving Brisbane’s diverse communities. The address is 983 Rochedale Road.
