Ever wonder what a high school looks like that’s been compared to the Millennium Falcon? Right here in Cottonwood Heights stands Brighton High School. It’s a unique circular structure, quite unlike any other school you’ll see. Brighton High School opened its doors in 1969, serving the burgeoning southeast suburbs of Salt Lake City. It has been a landmark ever since, perched atop a sloping sandpit with breathtaking views of the Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake Valley. Brighton High School serves students from grades 9-12 as part of the Canyons School District. The school boasts a diverse student body of about 2,300 students, learning and growing within its distinctive round walls. Over the years, Brighton High School has developed its own rich traditions. From “Homecoming Olympics” to the “Burning of the B,” students have embraced their Bengal identity. Brighton High School also has a history of athletic excellence. It has racked up over 120 state championship titles, more than any other high school in Utah. Did you know that Brighton High has a tradition of strong academic programs as well? A significant number of students participate in Advanced Placement courses and exams. Even a unique course like American Problems, with its mock elections and simulations of totalitarian rule, remains a student favorite. Brighton High School has nurtured many notable alumni too. NFL players like Jackson and Cody Barton, Simi Fehoko, Bryan Kehl, and Reno Mahe all walked these halls. So did professional volleyball player Dani Drews and former Chicago Cubs pitcher Sean Overholt. NHL player Trevor Lewis also once called Brighton High School home. This school has played a crucial role in shaping the lives of countless individuals, contributing to the cultural and technological landscape we see today. As you stand before Brighton High School, imagine the echoes of five decades of learning, laughter, and Bengal pride resonating within these walls. It’s more than just a school. It’s a testament to community, achievement, and a unique architectural vision.
