Journey with me back to July 2004. The Brighton Beach LP Power Station hums to life for the first time. This isn’t just another power plant. The Brighton Beach LP Power Station, nestled in Windsor, Ontario, quickly becomes the largest combined cycle facility in Canada. Imagine the sheer power of this place. Two General Electric 7FA gas turbines roar, feeding two massive heat recovery steam generators. These, in turn, power a single, mighty General Electric D11 condensing steam turbine generator. 580 megawatts surge into the Ontario power grid, lighting homes and powering industries across the province. The Brighton Beach LP Power Station draws its lifeblood, natural gas, from Union Gas and its cooling water from the vast Detroit River. This combined cycle marvel represents a significant step forward in efficient power generation, minimizing emissions while maximizing output. Atura Power, a subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation, owns and operates this behemoth. But the electricity doesn’t just belong to them. It flows under the control and marketing lead of Coral Energy Canada Inc. The next time you flick on a light switch in Ontario, remember the hum of the Brighton Beach LP Power Station. It’s a testament to human ingenuity, a symbol of progress quietly working along the Detroit River.
