Established in 1994, Bridges Academy began as a small in-home tutorial for just three students. It has since blossomed into a unique educational haven in Studio City, Los Angeles. Bridges Academy caters to “twice-exceptional” or “2e” learners. These are gifted students who also navigate learning differences like autism, ADHD, or dyslexia. The school’s motto, “Imagine, Persevere, Achieve; Educating the Exceptional,” reflects its commitment to fostering creativity and intellectual curiosity. Bridges Academy recognizes that these students learn differently. Their strength-based model ensures each student has a personalized learning plan. This plan addresses their unique academic, creative, and social-emotional needs. Small class sizes, extensive academic support, and a robust advisory program are cornerstones of the Bridges approach. The campus of Bridges Academy has its own interesting history. It’s located on the former site of Corvallis High School, an all-girls Catholic school. Bridges Academy initially shared the space with Osaka Sangyo University. In 2011, they purchased the entire 3+ acre campus, solidifying their presence in Studio City. The curriculum at Bridges Academy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s designed to be both challenging and supportive, recognizing the students’ gifts while accommodating their learning differences. Core academic classes, electives, enrichment clusters, and a Young Experts Achievement program cultivate passions and talents. The school understands that a student’s learning difference doesn’t diminish their intellectual capabilities. Bridges Academy is more than just academics. It’s a vibrant community where students can explore their interests. From cross country and basketball to a nationally recognized speech and debate program, there are opportunities for every student to shine. The mascot, a phoenix, chosen by the students themselves, symbolizes resilience and transformation. Bridges Academy graduates have gone on to colleges and universities across the nation. Their success is a testament to the school’s dedication to nurturing the potential of every 2e learner.
