Once upon a time, did a Hamburg Holzkaufmann purchase this very Bredenbeker Teich? The Bredenbeker Teich, also known as Bredsche, is a picturesque pond. It lies nestled between Ahrensburg and Ammersbek-Bünningstedt.
The Bredenbeker Teich covers approximately 35 hectares. Its average depth reaches 1.3 meters. The deepest point is about 3.2 meters. The shoreline stretches over 6 kilometers. Paths for walkers and cyclists run along the southern bank.
Its story began in the late 15th century. The Zisterzienserinnen-Kloster Reinbek created it for fish farming. Peter Rantzau, owner of Gut Ahrensburg, enlarged it in 1585. Fast forward to 1924, Wilhelm Gratenau, a Hamburg timber merchant, bought the pond and surrounding lands including Gut Lindenhof.
Gratenau established a large beach area on the north shore. Many Hamburg residents arrived on the Walddörferbahn to enjoy it during warm summer months. Later, a campsite and two golf courses were added there.
Today, the beach and campsite still exist. The CBT e. V. Campingverein Bredenbeker Teich has managed them since 1998. The swimming area is in the northwest part of the site. The Bredenbeker Teich area includes two more lakes. They extend east toward Ahrensburg. The water quality here is proven to be very good.
The Bredenbeker Teich drains into the Bredenbek. The Bredenbek flows into the Alster and then the Elbe on its way to the North Sea. The Bredenbeker Teich is fed by the Bredenbek river. The eastern part of the pond is fenced off. The island is also restricted.
Speaking of famous residents. The Bredenbeker Teich is where Waldemar Bonsels set his story of Biene Maja. He spent his childhood in Ahrensburg. He drew inspiration from the local nature. His stories continue to delight children.
The Bredenbeker Teich provides a beautiful setting for recreation. Walking, riding and cycling paths abound. They wind along the shoreline and through surrounding areas. These areas include forests, fields, and lovely avenues. Two golf courses are also nearby.
From Ahrensburg, two forest paths lead to the Bredenbeker Teich. It is an ideal spot for a picnic. Though angling is allowed here, it may be fruitless. The pond was completely fished out in 2016.
