Ever wondered what five generations of brewing experience tastes like? Here at Brauerei Reichenbrand, you can discover it. This brewery in Chemnitz boasts a long and storied history. It is a history filled with family, tradition, and of course, excellent beer.

Brauerei Reichenbrand was founded in 1874 by Karl-Friedrich Hofmann. However, in 1895, Gustav Oswald Bergt took over after Hofmann’s bankruptcy. The brewery then operated as Brauerei Gebr. Bergt from 1910. After the Second World War, it was known as Brauerei Oswald Bergt Reichenbrand. It also went by Bergt Siegmar-Schönau and Bergt Karl-Marx-Stadt until about 1965.

In 1969, the state acquired a stake in Brauerei Reichenbrand. By January 1972, the brewery was nationalized. Fassbierabfüllung, or the filling of beer into barrels, ceased in the early 1970s. On January 1, 1980, the brewery became part of VEB Getränkekombinat Braustolz Karl-Marx-Stadt.

Following the German reunification, Brauerei Reichenbrand was re-privatized on April 1, 1990. The brewery underwent extensive modernization in the early 1990s. Today, Brauerei Reichenbrand is known for its wide range of beers. These beers offer a diverse taste for every beer lover.

Brauerei Reichenbrand offers Reichenbrander Bockbier. It also produces Reichenbrander Classic Pilsener and Reichenbrander Kellerbier. Reichenbrander Premium, Unser Helles, and Dunkelbier are also brewed here. If you prefer wheat beer, try Reichenbrander Weizenbier. For something different, sample the Reichenbrander Red Ale anno 1874.

The brewery is a member of Brauring. This is a cooperative of private breweries from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

In 1994, the Bräu-Stübl restaurant opened in the former bottle cellar to celebrate the brewery’s 120th anniversary. It quickly gained popularity. Here, you can savor Saxon home cooking that perfectly complements the beers. Consider trying Soljanka or Saxon Sauerbraten. Many dishes are refined with Reichenbrander beer.

The restaurant features a rustic Schank- und Speiseraum. It accommodates up to 120 guests. In the summer, the Brauhof invites you to linger in the open air. It offers space for 65 guests.

Adding to its accolades, Brauerei Reichenbrand won gold in the “World’s Best Redesign” category at the World Beer Award 2024. After years of trademark disputes, the Bergt Bräu Reichenbrand brand has been back since 2021.

So, raise a glass to Brauerei Reichenbrand. It is a place where tradition, passion, and great beer come together.
