The Botanischer Garten der Universitu00e4t Duisburg-Essen has a rich history. It was founded in the early 1980s by Dr Guido Benno Feige a Professor of Botany. He was instrumental in shaping the garden’s focus including its impressive collection of Mediterranean plants. Professor Feige’s legacy lives on in the diverse plant life flourishing here.

The garden boasts approximately 3500 species. These are lovingly cultivated in both indoor and outdoor spaces. The greenhouses cover 1100 square meters. The outdoor area is even larger at 3000 square meters. There’s a captivating diversity here. This includes an extraordinary collection of carnivorous plants one of the largest in Germany. Originally located at Henri-Dunant-Strasse 65 the garden relocated. In 2010 it found a new home. The Botanischer Garten der Universitu00e4t Duisburg-Essen now sits near the Grugapark. This move marked a new chapter for the garden. This allowed for expansion and closer collaboration with other institutions.
