Amidst the constant motion of Logan Airport, a quiet space invites reflection. This is the Boston Logan International Airport 9/11 Memorial. It’s a place dedicated to remembrance and resilience. The Boston Logan International Airport 9/11 Memorial honors the passengers and crew of American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175. Both flights departed from this very airport on that fateful morning of September 11, 2001, bound for Los Angeles. The memorial also commemorates the airport community’s response. They worked tirelessly to restore aviation operations. They also offered comfort to grieving families. The memorial itself is a glass cube, a beacon of light. Inside, two glass panels are etched with the names of each victim. The departure times of the flights, 7:59 a.m. and 8:14 a.m., are also etched in the glass. Above, additional glass pieces hang, shimmering in the light. Two curved walkways lead to the cube. They symbolize the flight paths of the two hijacked planes. The Boston Logan International Airport 9/11 Memorial stands as a testament to loss, but also to the strength and compassion of the human spirit. It is a place where visitors can pause, remember, and reflect amidst the bustle of this international hub.
