Established in 1685 by Elector Friedrich Wilhelm the Bourse Berlin AG boasts a rich history. Its first trading session however didn’t occur until 1739. Initially housed in the upper floor of a Lusthaus the exchange eventually moved. A new building was constructed in Burgstrasse between 1859 and 1863. This magnificent structure cost 700000 Thaler. The Bourse Berlin AG quickly became a global powerhouse. By the start of World War I it ranked among the world’s top three exchanges. Tragedy struck in 1944 when an air raid destroyed the building. Its ruins remained until 1958. The Bourse Berlin AG reopened in West Berlin after the war. It faced challenges regaining its former prominence. Since the mid-1990s the Bourse Berlin AG adopted a niche strategy focusing on international stocks and bonds. A significant moment arrived in 2007 with a majority stake acquisition in EASDAQ NV. This marked a strategic repositioning for the Bourse Berlin AG. The launch of the Equiduct marketplace in 2009 further solidified this new approach. A partnership with Citadel Securities provided crucial funding. Tradegate Exchange GmbH acquired the Bourse Berlin AG in 2019. This brought Tradegate Exchange Bourse Berlin and Equiduct under one roof. Friederike von Hofe became managing director in 2020. The Bourse Berlin AG relocated to Kurfurstendamm in 2022. Today the Bourse Berlin AG continues to thrive. It is a testament to its enduring legacy and adaptability in the ever-evolving world of finance. Its story a blend of triumph and resilience is one worth remembering. The Bourse Berlin AG stands as a symbol of Berlin’s economic history.
