Across the Mananga River stands Bonbon Bridge a lifeline for the community. This isn’t just any bridge. It’s a symbol of resilience hope and community spirit. For years residents of Barangay Bonbon faced a daunting challenge. During the rainy season the Mananga River swelled. It became a raging torrent. Crossing was dangerous if not impossible. Children struggled to reach school. Adults risked their lives to get to work. Emergencies became even more terrifying.

Bonbon Bridge changed everything. Before its construction residents had to take arduous detours. These routes were muddy and treacherous. Imagine a fifty-minute hike just to reach school. Children carried their uniforms and shoes to avoid getting them dirty. Think of the extra effort needed to carry groceries or sick family members.

The bridge isn’t just a simple structure. It’s 35 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. Its sturdy construction uses thick coco lumber slabs for the deck. Strong rope wires form secure handrails and fences. Concrete columns anchor it firmly to the ground. This design ensures its stability. Even the surge of strong typhoons cannot reach the bridge’s deck. It’s elevated about 3 meters above the river.

This remarkable bridge isn’t simply an engineering feat. It’s a testament to collaboration. The Mormon Helping Hands from Cebu City Stake worked with Rise and Rebuild International. They partnered with Barangay Captain Eduardo Cabriana. Together they brought this dream to life. Construction began in April 2015 and finished just a month later. The project started as a response to the community’s urgent need for safe passage.

Tatay Abundio a 78-year-old resident joyfully recounts his experience. He can now easily visit friends and family. The bridge connects two sitios of Barangay Bonbon. It’s become a crucial link for daily life. Mothers no longer have to fear the river when taking their children to school. Commuting to work is quicker and safer.

Bonbon Bridge isn’t simply a bridge. It’s a testament to the power of community effort. It’s a symbol of hope. It’s a living example of how collaboration can overcome challenges. Look at this bridge. It stands as a silent observer of countless journeys. It connects families neighbors and dreams. It’s a story woven into the very fabric of Barangay Bonbon’s history.
