Kelly, a bright-eyed seventh grader, clutched her purple and gold backpack. She nervously approached Bogota High School. She wondered if the rumors about the legendary Buccaneers were true. Bogota High School, a place of learning and growth, stood proudly on 2 Henry C. Luthin Place in Bogota, New Jersey. This comprehensive public high school serves students from seventh to twelfth grade. It’s the sole secondary school in the Bogota Public Schools district. Bogota High School, as of the 2023-24 school year, had 469 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.2:1. The school’s colors, purple and gold, represent a proud tradition. Did you know that Bogota High School has a rich history of athletic achievement? The Buccaneers compete in the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference. Their teams have won state championships in boys basketball, cross country, and girls volleyball. The girls volleyball team holds an impressive record, with eleven state titles. This places them fourth in the state. Imagine the roar of the crowd when the Buccaneers football team won the North 1, Group I state championship in 2006. This was their first championship since 1957. Bogota High School also fosters a vibrant extracurricular scene. Clubs like the Yearbook Committee, Multicultural Club, and Drama Club offer students diverse opportunities. The school newspaper, The Klaxon, and the literary publication, The Outloook, showcase student talent. In 2014, New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Bogota High School 200th out of 339 public high schools statewide.
