Blueridge Baptist Church

In the fall of 1954, a vision for a new spiritual home began to take root. Reverend Finis L. Williams shared his idea for a church in the burgeoning Blueridge addition with the Minister’s and Layman’s Conferences of the Old Landmark Baptist District Association. This vision quickly turned into a reality. By March 1955, the Blueridge Baptist Church was officially organized with Reverend Williams as its founding pastor. The journey to establish the church was not without its challenges. Reverend Williams, accompanied by a committee, had to navigate the bureaucratic process, presenting their case to project managers to secure the plot of land where Blueridge Baptist Church stands today. Their efforts were successful. The Old Landmark Baptist District Association rallied behind the project. They generously provided a thousand dollars, a significant sum at the time, to begin the construction of a permanent sanctuary. As a testament to the community’s resourcefulness, two buildings were purchased and moved to the site on August 20, 1955, marking the initial physical presence of the church. It was on June 29, 1960, that Reverend Williams was called to his eternal rest. Yet, the church he nurtured continued to thrive. In October of that year, Reverend Wilson Duke Richardson Sr. assumed the pastoral mantle, guiding the congregation for the next three decades. Under Reverend Richardson’s leadership, Blueridge Baptist Church experienced a pivotal moment in its history. In June 1965, the congregation proudly moved into the current church building, a testament to their growth and commitment. This sacred space has been a witness to countless baptisms, weddings, and sermons, echoing with the faith of generations.
