Have you ever stumbled upon a hidden gem? Blueberry Mountain in Weld, Maine is just that. While less known than other trails in the area, Blueberry Mountain offers stunning views. From its 2890-foot summit, the Maine High Peaks region unfolds before you. On a clear day, you can spot iconic peaks like Jackson, Tumbledown, Bald, and Mount Blue. Even distant summits like Saddleback, Spaulding, Mount Abram, North and South Crocker, Sugarloaf, and even Mount Washington in New Hampshire might grace the horizon. Your journey up Blueberry Mountain begins at the Blueberry Mountain Bible Camp parking lot. The trailhead is unmarked, but you can find it to the right of the parking lot, leading towards an athletic field. Cross the field and enter the hardwood forest, where the trail follows an old woods road for a short distance. Soon, the trail veers right, leaving the road behind and starting its steady ascent. Dark blue blazes mark the way, guiding you through the changing forest landscape. You’ll pass through stands of maple, yellow birch, and gray birch, with opportunities to spot signs of local wildlife. As you climb higher, spruce, fir, and white birch become more prominent, before finally giving way to low scrub and, of course, blueberry bushes. Above the tree line, cairns mark the final approach to the summit. At the top, a large cairn and a geological survey marker await, alongside the breathtaking panoramic views.
