Craving an underwater adventure right here in Beijing? Then you are in the right place. Welcome to the Blue Zoo Beijing. It is not just an aquarium. It is a portal to a mesmerizing underwater realm.

Built in 1997, the Blue Zoo Beijing was the first five-star aquarium in Beijing. It was a joint venture between China and New Zealand. The Blue Zoo Beijing quickly became a landmark. In its first year, over a million visitors flocked to see its wonders.

This impressive aquarium spans about 7,800 square meters. It is one of China’s largest artificial underwater worlds. The main exhibition pool holds 4.5 million liters of seawater. It houses 600 species of marine life. You will find 5,000 sea fish and over 500 species of shellfish. They come from all corners of the globe.

The Blue Zoo Beijing is divided into two main areas. The first area boasts a transparent underwater tunnel. This allows you to fully immerse yourself in the undersea landscape. The underwater tunnel is 120 meters long. It was once the longest acrylic underwater tunnel in Asia.

Here, you will find various exhibition zones. These zones are themed to educate and entertain. Explore the Sea Fish Zone. It showcases marine animals from diverse ecosystems. Get up close in the Touching Zone. Here, you can gently interact with creatures like starfish and sea cucumbers.

Do not miss the Shark & Sea Turtle Zone. It features lemon sharks and green sea turtles. Did you know that lemon sharks can grow up to 3 meters long? Green sea turtles can live for over 100 years. The Freshwater Fish Zone displays fish from different climates. See species from frigid, temperate, and tropical zones. The Giant Salamander Zone houses two giant salamanders. One is over 80 cm long. These timid creatures often hide under pebbles.

The second area is the South Pole Zone. It features exhibits about the polar continent. You can learn about polar explorations. A highlight is the vacuum tank. Developed by the Blue Zoo Beijing, it allows you to get incredibly close to fish.

Keep an eye out for the nurse shark. It is known as the “Shark of Gentleness”. It has a docile nature. They are gentle and never attack humans. Another fascinating resident is the clownfish. These vibrant fish coexist with sea anemones. The anemone protects the clownfish. The clownfish helps to clean the anemone.

The Blue Zoo Beijing is committed to education and entertainment. It aims to show the beautiful underwater world through high technology. Check the schedule for special events. Watch divers feed sharks. Enjoy the sea lion show.

Before you go, remember a few tips. You can book tickets via the official WeChat account. The Blue Zoo Beijing is located at the South Gate of Beijing Workers Stadium. You can easily reach it by bus or metro.
