Lost in time? East Bloomfield Cemetery beckons. This isn’t just any cemetery. It’s a living history lesson in Ontario County New York. Established in 1838 it holds stories far older than its official founding.

The land itself whispers of 1798. A pioneer Benjamin Keyes envisioned a church on this very hill. His church was built in 1808 with a small graveyard beside it. Imagine the early settlers their lives entwined with this sacred space. The church was later torn down to make way for an academy now home to the Bloomfield Historical Society. The graveyard however found a new home in its present location in 1838.

East Bloomfield Cemetery is more than a resting place. It’s a vibrant community endeavor managed by a non-profit association. Traditional burials are available along with ash burials green burials and even pet burials. The cemetery offers a wide variety of burial options ensuring the needs of the community are met.

Over 1800 souls rest here their lives etched into the headstones. The cemetery records dating back to 1838 are a treasure trove for genealogists. Many family histories are preserved within its grounds. Some gravesites lack birth and death dates though adding a touch of mystery to the place.

Walk among the monuments. Notice the diverse styles. Reflect on the lives lived. The quiet beauty of the place is striking. A wildflower meadow offers a peaceful contrast to the traditional grave sites.

Don’t just visit East Bloomfield Cemetery. Experience it. Feel the weight of history beneath your feet. Discover the stories waiting to be uncovered. Listen closely and you’ll hear whispers of the past. This cemetery is a true testament to the lives and legacies of those who came before us.
