Perhaps you noticed Block C’s absence from the Kuala Lumpur skyline. Block C, once part of the Pekeliling Flats, held a place in the city’s narrative. These flats rose in Kuala Lumpur, after Razak Mansion and Sulaiman Court.
Let’s step back in time to understand Block C’s story. The Pekeliling Flats aimed to house low-income residents. The Kuala Lumpur City Commission launched the project. It cost RM20.5 million.
Seven blocks formed the Pekeliling Flats. These were Blocks A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. They included four-story shop houses. Block C stood on Jalan Pekeliling, now Jalan Tun Razak, and Jalan Pahang.
However, time brought change. Blocks A and B were demolished in 2006. The remaining blocks, including Block C, were slated for demolition later.
By 2008, the last families had moved out. Yet, Block C stood vacant for years. It became a stark image against Kuala Lumpur’s skyline.
Finally, Block C faced its end. On January 22, 2014, demolition began. The entire process concluded in November 2015.
Though Block C no longer stands, its story remains. It reminds us of Kuala Lumpur’s ever-changing urban landscape. The city transforms old into new. This creates a place where progress is visible.
