A mighty tree planted in 1885 to celebrate the 70th birthday of Otto von Bismarck. Bismarck was a prominent statesman who united Germany under his leadership. He is considered one of the most important figures in German history. But did you know that this oak is not just a monument to Bismarck? It’s also a reminder of Heidelberg’s rich history and the deep connection between its people and this iconic figure. The Bismarckplatz square, right next to the tree, was named in honor of Bismarck. It’s where the tree stands tall, surrounded by a beautiful park. People from near and far come to visit the oak, appreciating its beauty and its connection to a significant figure. Every time I’m at the Bismarckplatz, I find myself drawn back to this impressive tree. It almost feels like a quiet witness to the city’s ever-evolving stories.
