Nestled on Basarabia Boulevard, near Morarilor Park, stands Biserica Sfântul Nicolae Balta Albă. This Bucharest church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a testament to family dedication and community spirit. Biserica Sfântul Nicolae Balta Albă has two patron saints. One is Saint Nicholas, celebrated on December 6th. The other is Saints Constantine and Helen, celebrated on May 21st. The story of Biserica Sfântul Nicolae Balta Albă begins in the year 2000. Priest Andrei Gheorghe, along with his wife and two children, Valentin and Simona, embarked on a mission. They dreamed of building a spiritual haven. Remarkably, the construction took less than five months, from June to October. The church was consecrated on October 20, 2000. Preasfintitul Teodosie Snagoveanul, Vicar Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, led the ceremony. He was joined by a group of priests and deacons. The church’s adornments and liturgical items were all thanks to the generosity of the community. Biserica Sfântul Nicolae Balta Albă is a wooden structure, plastered and adorned with icons on the outside. Inside, the church is beautifully decorated with frescoes. The carved oak iconostasis and pews add to the church’s charm. The icons on the iconostasis depict the church’s patron saints, Jesus Christ, and the Virgin Mary with Child. In the courtyard, you’ll find a bell tower with two large bells and a chapel. The chapel serves as a place for funeral services. On each saint’s day, the church shares food and gifts with those attending the service and those in need.
