It’s a testament to faith and family. The story of Biserica Ortodoxă „Sfântul Dimitrie” Bragadiru begins with the Marinescu Bragadiru family. They commissioned its construction. The years 1897 to 1899 saw tireless work. On October 26 1899 the church was consecrated. The building itself is a beautiful cross shape. Two towers stand tall. One larger tower is at the Pantocrator. A smaller tower served as a bell tower until 1934. Inside the church is a mosaic cement floor. The paintings are the work of Anton Serafim. This includes the iconostasis.

The church has seen much history. A previous church stood on this site. It was built in 1851 by vornic Alexandru Scarlat Ghica. Nifon was the Metropolitan of Ungrovlahia at the time. That first church stood in the courtyard of a distillery. The current Biserica Ortodoxă „Sfântul Dimitrie” Bragadiru has undergone several restorations. The first was in 1928. DM Bragadiru doctor G Ghiorghian and G Mironescu funded it. Residents of Bragadiru also contributed. The priests Tache Simionescu and Alecu Pastrama oversaw the work. Later renovations took place between 1972 and 1974. Father Petre Tecucianu managed this restoration. PS Roman Ialomiteanu performed the reconsecration. The church has seen further improvements over the years. These include repainting the roof in 1992-1994 and exterior plastering. Interior painting was restored in 1997. This was the work of Marin Bonea from Varasti. The bell tower was rebuilt between 2003 and 2004. Central heating was installed at this time. The church’s courtyard was also landscaped. PS Ambrozie Sinaitul performed the reconsecration after these works. The church furniture and carpet were replaced in 2007.
