In 1713, a humble tradesman named Constantin Miulescu, known as “Precupețul,” built a simple wooden church. This church, Biserica Ortodoxă “Precupeții Noi,” stands before you today, a testament to the enduring faith of the community. Biserica Precupeții Noi takes its name, “The New Tradesmen,” from Miulescu’s profession. The original wooden structure was replaced in 1814 with a sturdy brick edifice, thanks to the efforts of Bârcă măcelarul and other dedicated parishioners. The growing community soon outgrew this building. In 1865, the church underwent significant expansions and renovations. Biserica Precupeții Noi continued to evolve over the years, adorned and maintained through the small but consistent contributions of its faithful members. Today, Biserica Precupeții Noi is not only a place of worship but also a cultural hub. It hosts regular cultural and theological events, fostered by its learned priests, Marin Comanescu and Gheorghe Holbea. These events feature prominent figures in Romanian cultural life. Discussions range from theological debates to historical analyses. Biserica Precupeții Noi also houses two revered icons, one of the Virgin Mary and another of Saint Parascheva. These icons are believed to hold miraculous powers, drawing pilgrims and believers seeking solace and divine intervention. A monument on the grounds commemorates Romanians who sacrificed their lives for territories lost to the Soviets. This reminds visitors of the church’s role in preserving national memory. Biserica Precupeții Noi’s well-preserved state belies its age. For three centuries, it has quietly witnessed Bucharest’s history, serving as a spiritual anchor and a testament to the enduring power of faith and community.
