The Biserica Ortodoxă „Popa Chițu” is more than just a place of worship. It’s a living chronicle of survival and resilience. Its story began not in 1813 with the construction of the current building but much earlier. A smaller church stood on this very spot from 1789 to 1791. Then came Priest Grigore Chițu. With the support of fellow priests Mușat and Stoica and the diacon Petre the Biserica Ortodoxă „Popa Chițu” rose again. The 1975-1980 renovations were truly transformative. Artist Iosif Keber added a stunning continuous frieze featuring 91 niches filled with painted saints. The meticulous detail is awe-inspiring.
