“Eighteenth of July” rings with significance here. It marks the feast day of Saint Emilian. The Biserica Ortodoxă „Nașterea Maicii Domnului” shelters relics of this saint. We stand before a testament to faith and community. This church is located in Drumul Taberei. Its story began in 1997.
The foundation stone was laid on September 8th. This date coincides with the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Patriarch Teoctist officiated the ceremony. Clergy and believers gathered in large numbers. This marked the beginning of a new place of worship.
Construction and finishing touches lasted from 1997 to 2003. Between 2006 and 2009, painters Sorin Nicolae and Adrian Botea adorned the church. Their art completes the Biserica Ortodoxă „Nașterea Maicii Domnului”.
Donations poured in from numerous believers. Priests Constantin and Emilian Ștaincu spearheaded the effort. They ensured the church had everything needed for holy services. The Biserica Ortodoxă „Nașterea Maicii Domnului” houses a special treasure. It is a reliquary containing pieces of Saint Emilian’s relics. These relics came as a gift in 2008. Metropolitan Ilarion of Silistra Bulgaria presented them. Saint Emilian is one of the patron saints of this holy place.
May 17 2009 was a landmark day. Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church led the consecration. A gathering of priests and deacons joined him. The service sanctified the Biserica Ortodoxă „Nașterea Maicii Domnului”. It also honored Saints Constantine and Elena. Saint Emilian of Durostorum was also recognized. The church stands near Drumul Taberei Park.
The parish of Nașterea Maicii Domnului – Drumul Taberei also operates a social center. It offers many services. Students benefit from a study room. Medical care is available. There is a general medicine office. A dental office provides care. Legal and psychological counseling are also available. A pharmacy dispenses plant-based medicines. Finally a dining hall offers meals. All these efforts showcase the parish’s commitment to the community.
