This church owes its existence to the generosity of Vasile and Florica Hrior. In 2007, they donated a 528 square meter plot of land to the Holy Archdiocese of Bucharest. Their wish was for a parish church to be built here. Patriarch Teoctist himself blessed the donation. The legal formalities were completed and a donation contract was signed.

The process moved quickly. By November 2007, the necessary urban planning certificate was obtained from the Sector 5 City Hall. The project for construction was developed including the site plan and architectural details.

Finally on July 15 2008 the Eparchial Council approved the establishment of the Acoperământul Maicii Domnului Ferentari Parish. This became official August 1 2008. Father Marian Stoian was appointed parish priest. His service began on October 1 2008 the very day of the church’s dedication.

December 26 2008 was a momentous day. Varsanufie officiated the consecration of the Biserica Ortodoxă Acoperământul Maicii Domnului Ferentari. He was surrounded by priests and deacons.

The church received its sacred antimis on January 19 2009. The first Divine Liturgy was celebrated on January 24 2009. Since then this church has been a place of prayer and community.

Biserica Ortodoxă Acoperământul Maicii Domnului Ferentari continues to be a spiritual home. It stands as a testament to faith community and the power of generosity. It is a place where people find solace seek guidance and celebrate their faith.

The church celebrates its patronal feast on October 1 each year. This is a very important celebration for the parish. Parishioners and visitors come together to pray. They ask for blessings and protection from the Mother of God. The church also holds special services. They include the Akathist to the Holy Cover and the Holy Unction.

Biserica Ortodoxă Acoperământul Maicii Domnului Ferentari houses several precious relics. These include a fragment of the Holy Cross and relics of various saints. These include Saint John the Baptist and Saint Stephen. The church also displays icons of the Mother of God. The icons are the Pantanassa and the “Wonder-working and Childbearing” icons.

In 2024 the church celebrated its Hram with a special program. The celebrations included Great Vespers the Akathist and the Divine Liturgy. The faithful gathered to honor the Mother of God. They sought her intercession for their needs.
