The scent of incense hangs heavy in the air. A gentle breeze rustles the leaves of nearby trees. We stand before the Biserica Acoperamantul Maicii Domnului a relatively young church in Bucharest’s Titan neighborhood.

This magnificent structure wasn’t always here. Its story began in 2001 with the blessing of Patriarch Teoctist. Father Mihai Stavara spearheaded the project securing land and necessary paperwork. The Bucharest City Hall and Sector 3 Municipality generously provided the land. Imagine the challenges involved acquiring land building permits and navigating bureaucracy in a bustling city.

Initially services were held in temporary military tents. These tents became a symbol of faith and perseverance for the community. This makeshift church overlooking Bulevardul Nicolae Grigorescu served the growing congregation. They held steadfast in their faith awaiting the completion of their permanent place of worship.

Construction on the new church started in May 2002. The design by architect Alin Negoescu and engineer Radu Stefanescu was a vision of faith taking shape. The consecration ceremony in August 2002 was a momentous occasion attended by Patriarch Teoctist himself. High ranking church officials and a large crowd joined in celebration. The laying of the cornerstone marked a pivotal moment.

The community rallied together donating time and resources. Year after year the church grew closer to completion a testament to their collective efforts.

By March 2006 the temporary tents had to be returned. The new church though unfinished provided shelter. Two annexes a chapel and a hall followed. Mayor Liviu Negoita further supported the project gifting additional land.

Deacon Mina Emilian Stavara joined the parish in 2007. He assists his father Father Mihai Stavara in their pastoral duties. The church extends its mission to the community providing aid to the elderly and needy. It also collaborates with local schools participating in events and school year blessings. The church hosts art exhibitions and concerts.

The church itself is a stunning example of religious architecture. Its cross-shaped design supports three domes. It measures an impressive 38 meters long 18 meters wide and 28 meters high. The oak iconostasis is a masterpiece of craftsmanship created by Marian Mircea from Alba Iulia. The exterior mosaics depict the church’s patron saints along with archangels and apostles.

Today the Biserica Acoperamantul Maicii Domnului stands as a symbol of faith. It stands as a beacon for the Titan community. It’s a place of worship a community center a testament to perseverance and collective spirit. This place of worship is a beautiful testament to unwavering faith and community collaboration.
