“Did they really fight right here in Binh Tri Dong B Ward?”. During the Vietnam War, the area which is now Binh Tri Dong B Ward was indeed a fierce battleground. The Battle of West Saigon raged from May 5th to 12th in 1968. This battle represented a crucial struggle during the Tet Offensive’s second wave. Binh Tri Dong B Ward, as part of the greater Saigon outskirts, found itself caught in the crossfire. The Viet Cong’s 9th Division was positioned in the hamlet of Binh Tri Dong, aiming to breach Saigon’s defenses. The US Army’s 199th Infantry Brigade, specifically the 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, created a stronghold at a place known as Firebase Stephanie. This firebase was vital in resisting the Viet Cong’s advances.
