The Bildung und Begegnung e.V. aimed to address the needs of the Muslim community in Freiburg and its surrounding areas. The association promotes a moderate view of Islam, derived from the Quran, the Sunnah (the teachings and practices of Prophet Muhammad), and the examples of righteous predecessors. The Bildung und Begegnung e.V. is fiercely independent of any political affiliations or parties. It relies solely on membership fees and the generosity of donors for its funding. The Bildung und Begegnung e.V.’s mission is multifaceted. It strives for active participation in the development of Freiburg society. It encourages cultural and religious exchange with various institutions. The association also aims to bridge the gap between the Muslim and non-Muslim communities, showcasing the rich cultural values of Islam. The current board, elected in 2023 for a four-year term, includes Abderrahim Jahdari (Chairman), Qais Alketib (Deputy Chairman), Markus Hanser (Treasurer), Rauia Jahdar (Member), and Hamouda Belakhal (Member). The Bildung und Begegnung e.V. also houses a center to meet the religious needs of the local Muslim community. This center offers prayer spaces and services. It also provides rooms for educational and social gatherings. One of the driving forces behind the establishment of the Bildung und Begegnung e.V. was the creation of a school. This school aims to help the younger generation preserve their identity and cultural heritage, supported by qualified professionals. The Arabic school, established in 2017, serves approximately 200 students of all ages.
