In 1952, a seed was planted. This seed was the idea of a public library for Mount Royal. It blossomed into the Bibliothu00e8que Reginald-J.-P.-Dawson that stands before us today. The library first opened its doors in 1953. It shared a building with the police and fire departments on Roosevelt Avenue. But its current home on Graham Boulevard has a special story. The Bibliothu00e8que Reginald-J.-P.-Dawson moved here in 1967. This move coincided with Canada’s centennial celebrations. The town gave the library the address 1967 Graham Boulevard to commemorate the occasion. The library quickly became a beloved community hub. Its sleek, modernist design even earned an award from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. In 1976, the library received its official name. It was named in honor of Mayor Reginald J. P. Dawson, who served the town for an impressive 25 years. The Bibliothu00e8que Reginald-J.-P.-Dawson continued to grow and adapt to the needs of the community. In 1998, it embraced the digital age and computerized its systems. A major expansion took place in 2012 and 2013. The library doubled in size. Architect Pierre Morency designed the new, contemporary spaces. Today, the Bibliothu00e8que Reginald-J.-P.-Dawson boasts a collection of nearly 160,000 items. It serves as a dynamic center for learning, culture, and community connection.
