Have you ever imagined walking among animals mentioned in the Bible? Welcome to the Bible Land Wildlife Preserve a unique place in Jerusalem. This 40-dunam area is home to animals that once roamed the Land of Israel. Many of these species have sadly disappeared. Here at the preserve we work hard to protect them. We breed them and even return some to the wild under careful supervision. The Bible itself helps us understand how the wildlife of Israel has changed over time.
The preserve is divided into three distinct sections. The first section recreates the rocky landscapes of Israel. Here you’ll find a large herd of Nubian ibex. Males females and young climb playfully among the rocks. It’s a captivating sight.
The second section represents the Mediterranean forest. This is the largest section. It’s home to a sizable group of Persian fallow deer. The young deer born here are later released into the wild in the Nahal Soreq and Galilee regions. You’ll also see Palestine mountain gazelles some rescued from injuries in the wild. We also care for several Scimitar oryx and wild sheep.
Finally the third section evokes the desert environment. Here reside the Arabian oryx. Their offspring are often transferred to the Yotvata Wildlife Preserve in the Arava region. Eventually they are carefully returned to their natural habitat.
