Founded in 1960, Bible College of Malaysia stands as a beacon of theological education. Imagine the dedication it took to establish this institution. It began as the Bible Institute of Malaya.
The Assemblies of God of Malaysia started it. Their goal was to train national workers for the gospel. Early courses were in English. A three-year diploma was offered. The first graduating class had seven students in 1962. Four men and three women received diplomas.
The Bible College of Malaysia initially focused on holistic training. This prepared graduates for full-time ministry. The college has expanded its offerings over the years. In 1980, a Chinese language department was formed. Malay language studies began in 2003.
In 1982, the institute’s name changed. It became Bible College of Malaysia. The Bachelor of Theology program was introduced at the same time. A Certificate of Biblical Studies started in 1986. This was designed for lay leaders.
The Asia Theological Association accredited Bible College of Malaysia in 1989. In 1990, it became a chartered member of the Asia Pacific Theological Association. The college is a founding member of the Malaysia Association of Theological Schools.
Several programs are now accredited. These include the Diploma of Theology and the Bachelor of Theology. Both English and Chinese programs have ATA accreditation.
The Bible College of Malaysia offers various qualifications. These include certificates, diplomas and undergraduate degrees. Postgraduate options are also available. These programs aim to equip students. They prepare them for diverse ministries.
Bible College of Malaysia is owned by the General Council of the Assemblies of God of Malaysia. A Board of Directors governs the college. This board includes representatives from the Assemblies of God. It also includes the college president and alumni representatives.
Today Bible College of Malaysia continues its mission. It trains leaders in English, Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia. The college offers Diploma of Theology and Bachelor of Theology programs. Also, Master of Ministry and Master of Divinity degrees are available. Provisional accreditation has been granted for additional degrees. These include Graduate Diploma in Biblical Studies. Also, Master of Divinity in Chinese and Master of Leadership Development.
Bible College of Malaysia has extension centers throughout Malaysia. These centers offer courses in multiple languages. This expands the college’s reach. It allows more people to access theological education.
