Tucked away on Annaberger Straße, the BFP Gemeinde Elim Chemnitz isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith, resilience, and a 70-year-old woman’s newfound belief. BFP Gemeinde Elim Chemnitz traces its origins back to 1933. Evangelist Heinrich Vietheer and a group of women, inspired by a divine experience, established the first Elim community in Chemnitz. The name “Elim,” meaning “oasis,” refers to a biblical story. After a long journey through the desert, the Israelites found respite in an oasis called Elim. This resonated with Vietheer. He saw faith as an oasis in the world’s wilderness. The BFP Gemeinde Elim Chemnitz is more than just a church. It’s a vibrant community of people from all walks of life. They gather not only for worship but also to share life, support each other, and make a difference in the city. The church’s mission focuses on encountering God, living together, developing health, and impacting society. The community prides itself on its diverse membership. It embraces people of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds. The BFP Gemeinde Elim Chemnitz operates independently, financing its work through voluntary donations rather than taxes or membership fees. The church’s history has seen several key figures. Pastors Dieter and Bruno Hampel led the congregation for years. In 1993, a new church building was inaugurated on Annaberger Straße. Pastor Markus Geyer has led the BFP Gemeinde Elim Chemnitz since 2018. The church’s story began a few years earlier, in 1929, with a series of tent revivals in Zwickau. During one of these events, a 70-year-old woman from Chemnitz found faith in Jesus Christ. This woman, known as “Mother Pfüller,” joined forces with a young woman named Hilde Dörfel. Together they prayed fervently for the people of Chemnitz. They witnessed others embrace faith, leading to the founding of the Elim community on April 2, 1933. Within five years, the congregation grew to 250 members. BFP Gemeinde Elim Chemnitz continues to be a place of faith, community, and service in the heart of Chemnitz.
