“East Flatbush welcomes you.” whispers the wind. That’s what I imagine the wind says as we stand before Beulah St. Paul’s Gospel Tabernacle. This church is more than just a building. It is a beacon of hope in Brooklyn.
Beulah St. Paul’s Gospel Tabernacle started humbly. It began in 1983 as a prayer group. Deacon Mark Elliot and Sister Jessie Elliot opened their home. Minister Michael assisted two senior elders. They conducted weekly prayers.
Within months, the prayer meeting grew. It included Bible study. Soon, it blossomed into a weekly Sunday School. This took place in the home of Apostle and Mother Wilbur and Sandra Jones.
In 1985, Pastor Michael reached a milestone. At the International Holy Convocation, he was ordained Elder. He achieved a perfect score on his catechism. It was then he was officially appointed Pastor of Beulah Annex. This was the church’s original name.
By 1987, Beulah Tabernacle had grown. Pastor Michael led the congregation to their first church home. This was at 1328 Flatbush Avenue. The church became incorporated as Beulah Tabernacle.
In 1994, the church moved again. They marched to 2256 Nostrand Avenue. This date is significant to Pastor Michael. It was the birthday of his late mother, Sis. Evadne Louise Michael.
Today, Beulah St. Paul’s Gospel Tabernacle is in East Flatbush. This area is near Brooklyn College. Pastor Michael leads the congregation. They establish a community presence. They sow seeds of the gospel. Their goal is to bring change. They want to improve the lives of individuals and families.
