Amidst the vibrant tapestry of Atlanta’s history, stands the Beulah Baptist Church. A beacon of faith and resilience, its story echoes through the generations. Beulah Baptist Church has been a cornerstone of Atlanta’s spiritual landscape for over 120 years. Initially known as Beulah Baptist Church, it later adopted the name Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, reflecting its expanding mission work.

Beulah Baptist Church’s journey began as a humble trickle in 1896. A small group of believers, led by Reverend W.F. Paschall, gathered in a grocery store on Mayson Avenue in the Edgewood Community. Their prayers and shared faith laid the foundation for what would become a mighty river of spiritual influence. Beulah Baptist Church’s motto, “Helping You Get Where God Wants You To Be,” encapsulates its commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of its members.

The church’s first permanent home was a modest wooden structure at the corner of Wesley Avenue and Hardee Street. As the congregation grew, the building was enlarged and encased in brick, a testament to the expanding influence of Beulah Baptist Church. Under Reverend Paschall’s 33-year leadership, the church flourished. The church purchased its first organ, installed new pews and carpeting, and awarded its first scholarships to college freshmen, demonstrating its commitment to both spiritual and community development. Beulah Baptist Church’s history is one of adaptation and growth.

In 1975, Beulah Baptist Church embarked on a new chapter, moving to a new edifice on Sage Lane, later renamed Beulah Lane. This relocation marked a significant milestone in the church’s history. Under the leadership of Pastor Jerry D. Black, beginning in 1991, the church experienced a period of remarkable transformation. The church’s name officially became Beulah Missionary Baptist Church.

Driven by Pastor Black’s vision, Beulah Baptist Church continued its journey, eventually settling at its current location on Clifton Springs Road in 1999. The construction of the Beulah Community Family Life Center further solidified the church’s commitment to community engagement, providing a space for recreation, education, and fellowship. Beulah Baptist Church weathered the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting to virtual services and even serving as a testing site for the virus. The church’s resilience and commitment to serving the community during this challenging time exemplify its unwavering spirit. Beulah Baptist Church stands as a testament to the power of faith, community, and unwavering dedication to serving others. From its humble beginnings to its present-day prominence, Beulah Baptist Church continues to shape the spiritual landscape of Atlanta.
