For centuries Bettola was a place of transit a place of hospitality. It thrived on agriculture and commerce. Its origins are lost in the distant past. Under the Visconti family Bettola flourished. The Magnifica Universitá della Val Nure gave the area autonomy. It had its own magistrates its own privileges. This was a significant period. It shaped the Bettola we know today.
