Pastor Jim Persram founded Betnel Assembly of God. He began his ministry in Guyana. In 1987, he and his wife Sister Baby founded Bethel Assembly of God in Queens. Today, Betnel is a thriving multicultural ministry. Hundreds gather weekly to worship.

Associate Pastor Lynette Hetsberger manages the Bethel Phone Prayer Network. She also leads the Bethel Seniors Group. Associate Pastor Stanley Praimnath survived both the 1993 bombing and 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. He is a motivational speaker and leader of the Men’s Group. Associate Pastor Ken Thakurdeen serves on the Church Board.

Pastor Jim Persram and his wife moved to the United States in 1983. They started their first church in Brooklyn. In 1987, they moved to Queens. With the help of faithful members, they started Bethel Assembly of God Church in Richmond Hill. The church initially met in a storefront. Later, it moved to different locations. In 1991, the church bought land in South Ozone Park. A few years later, they completed construction of a beautiful church. In April 1996, Bethel Assembly moved into its new building. It welcomes people from all races and cultures. The church aims to reach everyone with the message of Jesus Christ.
