Opened in 2004, Bethesda Temple of Detroit has a captivating story. It’s a story of faith, perseverance, and the power of community. Pastor Steven Campbell and Lady Eleanor Denise Campbell founded Bethesda Temple in 2001. Their mission was clear: to build hope through Jesus Christ. They envisioned healing, deliverance, and spiritual growth for their followers. Bethesda Temple of Detroit’s first service was held in a small office complex in Southfield. Challenges arose when building plans changed. Undeterred, the Campbells continued services in their home and the homes of their congregants. Their faith led them to a new location on Joy Road in Detroit in 2002. The building needed work. The congregation rallied, cleaning and preparing the space for worship. This act of communal effort demonstrated the strong foundation of Bethesda Temple of Detroit. The desire for a permanent home remained. After two years of prayer and sacrifice, Bethesda Temple found its place on Schaeffer Highway. The first service in this new building was held on September 19, 2004. Bethesda Temple of Detroit continued to grow. It established community programs like a food program and an evangelistic outreach program. The church’s journey reflects its commitment to serving both its congregation and the community. It stands as a testament to the vision of its founders and the dedication of its members.
