Established in 1962 Bethesda Christian Church answered a spiritual need. It served the growing Spanish-speaking community in south San Antonio. Bethesda quickly became a vital part of the neighborhood. The church expanded its reach. It ministered not only to the south side but also to the entire city and surrounding areas. In 1982 a determined group purchased the current location at 8311 S Zarzamora. This marked a significant step of faith for the growing congregation. Bethesda continued to thrive. It aimed to reach a new generation. In 2020 the church changed its name to Mercy Church San Antonio. The name change reflected its expanded mission and vision. Bethesda’s history shaped its identity. It’s a testament to the dedication of its members. The church’s mission is to show mercy to a broken world. Its beliefs center around the Bible as God’s inspired word. Jesus is seen as the Son of God who died for our sins and rose again. Bethesda emphasizes faith repentance and baptism. They believe in the Holy Spirit and its gifts. They also believe in Jesus’s healing power and his eventual return. Sacraments like baptism communion and foot washing are practiced. Membership involves completing a Rooted class. This class explores foundational Christian beliefs. The church actively encourages giving. It supports missionaries and ministries locally and globally.
