Bethel Presbyterian Church’s story began with a small group. They gathered for worship in 1880. Mrs. Lucretia Johnson hosted them in her home. This vision took shape. It became official on November 23, 1884, as a chapel.

Bethel Presbyterian Church had an excellent trip. They saw Aurelia perform in “Once On This Island”. She is the daughter of one of their members. She played Asaka in the Broadway Musical. The performance was excellent. All of the actors and actresses were phenomenal.

Congratulations to the members of the production “Once On This Island”. They received a Tony nomination.

Bethel Mission Chapel was reorganized. This happened in 1887. It was in a new building. The old building was moved one mile away. It became Hope Chapel. Bethel Chapel functioned until 1943. It then became Bethel Presbyterian Church. Rev. Leslie Taylor led the ministry.

From Bethel Presbyterian Church of Plainfield NJ, we honor the lives of Lucretia Johnson. She was the founder. We honor Pastors Rev. Imes and Rev. Taylor. Also honored are Rev. Christian and Rev. Newbold Leader. The church remembers Fred Johnson, Rufus Dent, and Mosel Lee. John Hawks Sr., Marietta Onque, Dorothy Horne, Gloria Jennings, and Sarah Atkinson are also remembered. To them we say Ashe.
