Bethel Church began with Robert Doherty. This intimate gathering happened in a private home. This was the start of a global movement.
Under Pastor Doherty’s leadership, the church grew. It outgrew their home and moved to a new location on Magnolia Avenue. Bethel Gospel Chapel acquired a new facility. It was dedicated on Bechelli Lane to house the growing congregation.
Reverend Vic Trimer became the pastor of Bethel Gospel Chapel. M. Earl and Darliene Johnson then became the pastors. Earl is the father of Senior Leader Bill Johnson. Ray and Rebecca Larson were called to pastor Bethel Gospel Chapel. The church grew to an estimated attendance of 2,000. It relocated to its present site on College View Road.
Bethel Gospel Chapel established King’s Kids Christian School. This was out of a desire to disciple children. Ray Larson led the school during its first years. The school was located at the former church site on Bechelli Lane. The school was later renamed Bethel Christian School.
Bethel Gospel Chapel completed construction. This construction was on the College View Campus facilities. Bill and Beni Johnson became the pastors of Bethel Gospel Chapel. Bethel Gospel Chapel opened the Transformation Center. It annually gives over 11,000 hours of ministry. This ministry is towards inner healing and personal transformation.
Kris and Kathy Vallotton became the Senior Associate Pastors of Bethel. Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry was founded. It started with 37 students. It now hosts over 2,000 students annually from 64 countries.
Jesus Culture hosted their first conference. Jesus Culture was Bethel’s youth ministry at the time. Bethel Gospel Chapel completed the construction of the Alabaster Prayer House. Danny and Sheri Silk moved to Redding. They became a part of the Bethel Senior Team.
Bethel.TV was established. Online streaming now reaches over 412,800 users internationally. Bethel Music was founded by Brian and Jenn Johnson. It was founded to steward songs coming out of Bethel Church. Bethel Music now reaches 2 million plus monthly listeners. It also reaches over 4 million through social media.
Bethel Gospel Chapel started leasing the Twin View Campus location. Bethel Gospel Chapel acquired the Caterpillar Road facility. This now houses Bethel Media, Human Resources, and Advancement. BSSM established the City Project Team. Since 2015, over 12,000 hours are given annually. These hours go towards practical city improvement projects.
Bethel Gospel Chapel started leasing the Redding Civic Auditorium. This created space for larger conferences. It also helped with growing enrollment at BSSM. Eric and Candace Johnson became the Senior Pastors of Bethel.
Bethel Gospel Chapel acquired the Lake Blvd facility. This facility is home to many Bethel ministry offices. It also houses the Transformation Center. Bethel Gospel Chapel purchased the Collyer property. This was preparing for the future expansion of Bethel.
Jesus Culture moved to Sacramento CA. They started their own church. Bethel Conservatory of the Arts was founded. It trains and equips professional actors. It also trains musical theater performers and dancers.
Bethel School of Technology was founded. It equips kingdom-minded believers for in-demand IT careers. Bethel Collyer Campus Expansion Project was approved. Redding Planning Commission approved plan development. It also approved the Environmental Impact Report. Redding City Council approved Bethel to apply for development. This development was for a new church and school campus facilities.
Bethel’s first global campaign launched. It was named Arise and Build. BSSM Online launched. Bethel broke ground on the new Collyer Campus. Site work began on August 8.
Dann Farrelly was installed as Lead Pastor. This happened after Eric and Candace left. They were planting STUDIO Greenville in South Carolina. Bethel College was established. It brought together Bethel School of Technology. It also included Bethel Conservatory of the Arts and Bethel Music College.
Bethel is a congregation rooted in the love of God. It is dedicated to worldwide transformation through revival. The Lord has given Bethel Gospel Chapel a mandate. That mandate is to be a resource center. It impacts cities and nations. It is believed that they are on the edge of the greatest revival of all time.
