“Can you feel the spirit of faith rising up from the very ground beneath your feet?” You stand just outside this historic place of worship, Bethany Baptist Church, whose rich history stretches back to the early 20th century when it was founded in 1915. Originally known as The Little Woodward Baptist Church, it was established by a small group of devoted individuals who met in their homes for prayer. The church’s first home was on Spencer Street. In 1940, it moved to its current location on Thurmond Street, marking a significant milestone in its journey. This very building you see before you is the one constructed in 1940. Over the years, Bethany Baptist Church has played a pivotal role in the Vine City community, offering a place of solace, hope, and spiritual nourishment to generations of faithful individuals. Its outreach programs have gone beyond the walls of the church, reaching out to the sick, the homeless, and those in need, offering a helping hand and a comforting word. It’s been said that the church has been a beacon of light in the community, a symbol of unwavering faith and resilient spirit.
