Gazing upon Bethany Assembly of God Church, can you sense the echoes of its long journey? Bethany Assembly of God Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith, resilience, and a commitment to serving God and community. The church’s story begins long before this structure graced this land, back in 1904-1905 in Springfield, with a woman named Mabel Weaver and her vision of Peace Chapel. This interdenominational chapel, dedicated by Rev. A. B. Simpson, laid the groundwork for Bethany’s global influence. In 1919, the then Bethany Fellowship Chapel aligned with the Assemblies of God. The church continued to grow, changing its name to Bethany Pentecostal Church in 1924, finally becoming Bethany Assembly of God in 1954. Through the years, Bethany Assembly of God Church in Springfield expanded its physical space and spiritual reach. The congregation outgrew three buildings, increasing capacity from 120 to 560 seats. Driven by a mission to serve God, the church, and the world, the congregation sought a larger space. In 1976, they purchased the fifty-one acres where Bethany Assembly of God Church now stands. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1980, the cornerstone was laid in 1982, and the first service was held on Easter Sunday 1983. The dedication followed shortly after, in May 1983. Continued growth led to another construction project, a facility dedicated to youth and children, completed in 1998. Bethany Assembly of God Church’s journey reflects the dedication of its pastors and members, shaping a legacy that continues to impact lives.
