Who would guess that a school could have such a rich history? The BEST-Sabel-Grundschule, located here in Mahlsdorf, has seen its fair share of transformations. Opened in 2000 as the first private school in Marzahn-Hellersdorf, the BEST-Sabel-Grundschule isn’t exactly new. But its story goes back much further than that. The building itself has a fascinating past. Constructed between 1935 and 1937, it was designed by the architect Paul Binder. Imagine the history those walls have witnessed! It originally served as the “10th Volksschule”. Over the years, the building evolved. It became the “10th Grundschule”, then the “10th Oberschule”, and later the “10th Polytechnische Oberschule Helene Weigel”. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it transformed into the “32nd Grundschule” and then the “Kiekemal-Grundschule” before becoming the BEST-Sabel-Grundschule we know today. Did you know that even the famous German singer Wolfgang Lippert once walked these halls? Now, the BEST-Sabel-Grundschule is a modern learning hub. A 2010 renovation added even more to the school’s facilities. Think English classes starting from first grade, followed by another foreign language and computer science in third grade. And it’s not just academics! The BEST-Sabel-Grundschule boasts over 25 extracurricular activities, ranging from table tennis and cheerleading to a student newspaper and even yoga. It’s a testament to Gustav Adolf Sabel, the namesake of the BEST-Sabel Bildungszentrum GmbH, which operates this school and many others. The BEST-Sabel-Grundschule isn’t just a school, it’s a place where history and modern education intertwine. It’s a reminder of the past and a symbol of the bright future for the children who learn here.
