Berliner-Kindl-Brauerei

In 1872, a group of Berlin restaurateurs embarked on a spirited venture. They established the Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG. This venture would later birth the Berliner-Kindl-Brauerei. Here we stand before the remnants of its Potsdam branch. The Berliner-Kindl-Brauerei in Potsdam began its life not here, but on Brauhausberg. It later relocated to the Potsdam-Süd industrial area. For over a century, this brewery quenched the thirst of Potsdam residents. It produced not only the famous Berliner Kindl beer, but also the beloved local brew, Potsdamer Rex Pils. The year 1897 marked a significant milestone. The brewery expanded with new structures, including a brewhouse, engine room, office building, and garages, even a Trinkhalle. These additions are a testament to the brewery’s success and growth during that period. The architects Hans Claus, Adolf Bolle, and Hermann Bolle were the creative minds behind this expansion. They shaped the brewery’s physical presence and left their mark on Potsdam’s industrial landscape. Sadly, the Potsdam chapter of the Berliner-Kindl-Brauerei story came to a close on December 31, 2002. The brewery ceased operations, leaving behind a legacy of brewing tradition. This building stands as a silent witness to the bustling activity that once filled its halls. It whispers tales of clinking glasses, the aroma of hops, and the satisfaction of a refreshing brew.
