Could a thunderstorm change the course of history? For Martin Luther, it did. Right here in Detroit, at the Berean Bible Church, we embrace a legacy ignited by that very storm. Berean Bible Church, a beacon of reformed theology, traces its spiritual lineage back to the Protestant Reformation. This movement, sparked by Luther’s defiance, irrevocably altered the religious landscape of the Western world. Berean Bible Church stands firm on the principles championed by Luther: Sola Fide and Sola Scriptura. “Sola Fide,” meaning salvation by grace through faith alone. “Sola Scriptura,” meaning the Scriptures alone hold ultimate authority. These tenets, central to our beliefs at Berean Bible Church, were revolutionary in Luther’s time. He challenged the established authority of the Roman Catholic Church, asserting the Bible’s supreme authority over creeds and councils. Luther’s 95 Theses, nailed to the Wittenberg church door on October 31, 1517, ignited the Reformation. He condemned the practice of indulgences, sparking a wave of reform.
