Have you ever heard of General Frederick Benteen? He was a U.S. Army Brigadier General during the American Civil War and the Battle of Little Bighorn. Well, Benteen Park in Atlanta is named after him. This neighborhood in southeast Atlanta is bounded on the west by Boulevard and the Chosewood Park neighborhood, on the north by Boulevard Heights, on the east by Custer/McDonough/Guice and on the south by the Atlanta Federal Prison. There’s a lot of history in this area. Benteen Park was part of Fulton County until 1952 when it was annexed by Atlanta. It has undergone gentrification since the early 2000s. If you were to have been here back then, you’d have seen a lot of development. Back in those days, low housing prices and proximity to facilities in Grant Park were some of the main reasons for the influx of new residents. The area even has its own event, the Benteen Park Fall Fest, which was established in 2023. It’s worth a stroll through Benteen Park during this time. It’s still a very vibrant neighborhood and has great parks. Benteen Park has many parks, both large and small. Check out the streets of Benteen Park and take in the sights. It’s a place with a lot of culture, and if you stand still for a moment, you might even hear the history echoing in the streets.
